What is the result of overcoming sin?

5 min

It pays to say “no” to sin and “yes” to the voice of the Spirit! Here are just a few of the glorious results of overcoming sin in your lifetime.

Always full of joy

Everyone wants to be happy.

Joy is one of the things people search most for. But there are only very few who really find it, who can say that they have real joy in their hearts every day of their lives.

Did you know that you can be one of those? Just think about it. You can become full of joy, full of a joy that is pure - a joy which does not depend on your situations, but is grounded in the hope and glory that the Bible promises us. This joy comes from living the overcoming life that the Bible speaks about.

The people the Lord has freed will return there. They will enter Jerusalem with joy, and their happiness will last forever. Their gladness and joy will fill them completely, and sorrow and sadness will go far away.” Isaiah 35:10 (NCV).

Freedom!

Not only that, but the Word of God promises “freedom” to all those who overcome.

Think for a moment about the verse in Romans 16:20 (NLT): “The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet.” Crush him! Imagine that the power of Satan over your life can be completely crushed in your life, that you can overcome in the power and strength of God. There is no longer anything he can tempt you to when he is crushed!

The result of an overcoming life is that you are no longer plagued by the sinful lusts and desires that live in your human nature, because you yourself have said No to these lusts and desires and overcame them. Satan has no more power over you, and you are no longer controlled by sin. You are freed from sin and from death itself!

“‘Where, Death, is your victory? Where, Death, is your power to hurt?’ Death gets its power to hurt from sin, and sin gets its power from the Law. But thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians 15:55-57 (GNT).

When you lead an overcoming life, you are no longer a “slave” to your own sin. You are free to do God’s good and perfect will for your life. What a glorious result!

God’s nature

But there is even more than this! In addition to the freedom and joy of an overcoming life, God wants to give you something even more wonderful.

We have everything we need to live a life that pleases God. It was all given to us by God's own power, when we learned he had invited us to share in his wonderful goodness. God made great and marvelous promises, so his nature would become part of us. Then we could escape our evil desires and the corrupt influences of this world.” 2 Peter 1:3-4 (CEV).

This verse is one of the most amazing verses in the Bible. Did you read it? “… so his nature would become part of us.” God’s nature! It is almost too great to understand – God wants to give you His own nature! He wants you to be full of light and purity, to have the fruits of the Spirit, like goodness, kindness, love, patience etc.

This is completely possible! It is the result of overcoming sin in your life. You can be real, true, pure – perfect. Don’t you want this?

What is holding you back? Believe God’s Word! Obey God’s Word! Overcome sin, and you will not be disappointed!
