Turn the day around!

Do you ever feel like everything is against you? People often call it “having a bad day”. I think most people feel like this at some point. Well, I'm having one of those days today.

I’m tired, my plans for the day aren’t working out and things just seem to be going wrong. There’s no electricity. The internet’s not working. Then, on top of everything, I drop my new phone on the floor. I feel like swearing!

Seconds later, it's as though a light comes on inside my heart - a message from God: “You can stop more evil from coming into this world!” Only last night, after watching the news on TV, I was thinking about how much evil, sin and darkness there is in this world. So much killing. So many broken relationships. So much fighting and complaining.

I become so thankful that even though I’m not an important or powerful person, I can stop more evil from spreading in my own, often small and boring situations. Then a Bible verse comes into my mind, “...so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.” Ephesians 6:13 (NLT). I think of what God expects of me as a Christian: To stay standing – even when I experience many strong temptations to sin on this “evil day”, as the Bible calls it. No giving in - no complaining or bitterness! It can stop with me!

“Feeling down” when you have a “bad day” has become quite acceptable and normal these days. It’s almost as if people believe that they don’t have a choice. But why not use the help that we can get from God to turn the day around? “So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.” Hebrews 4:16 (NLT). We get help to be patient, no matter how difficult the situation is, to speak thankful words to my closest family and pray thankful prayers to God Himself.

Then I am part of a worldwide battle to stop more evil from coming into the world, and what’s more, I let others experience the life of Jesus—in this day and age!
