What is perfect happiness?

Is it really possible to always be happy despite the unrest I face every day?

What is perfect happiness?

Why are we not always happy? Why is it so easy to become worried and full of unrest? Why does it take so long to come to that sure and strong faith that is spoken of in Hebrews 10:22?

Isn't it this sure and strong faith that gives us the joy and peace that everyone is seeking?

Unrest can be the result of making demands, wanting to be liked, or still wanting something in this world. We can also have a lot of excuses and reasons for our worries and unrest, like that we care for the others etc.

When I become restless, I need to find the thing inside myself that causes this unrest. Jesus also had a battle to fight, like we read in John 12:27 (GNT): “Now my heart is troubled--and what shall I say? Shall I say, 'Father, do not let this hour come upon me'? But that is why I came--so that I might go through this hour of suffering.” And then He asked that the Father’s name should be glorified. (John 12:28.)

If we are just as awake in our situations as Jesus was in His, we will also have the same joy that Jesus had and that we read about in Hebrews 1:9. We see there that the foundation for this perfect happiness is to love righteousness and hate unrighteousness – not the unrighteousness in others, but the unrighteousness in ourselves!

We have this powerful encouragement in Hebrews 6:11-12 (CEB), “But we desperately want each of you to show the same effort to make your hope sure until the end. This is so you won't be lazy but follow the example of the ones who inherit the promises through faith and patience.”

May God give us grace so that we find the reason for unrest in ourselves, and fully overcome it, just as Jesus did. Then God can glorify His name, and we have joy, peace, and rest in all our situations. This is perfect happiness.
