Prayer in my “inner room”: Releasing the power of God’s grace

Connection with heavenly powers in your prayer room

There are strong forces in prayer – far more than we think. It says that God is able to do far more than we could ever ask for or imagine. (Ephesians 3:20.) It is therefore important to pray at all times. Jesus gives good guidelines for prayer in Matthew 6:6: “But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.”

Many forget their “inner prayer room”, so they miss out on great blessings. By prayer we come in connection with the heavenly powers.

The great effects of prayer

A “prayer room” is like a room at a power station where a great hidden service is done. In that room a single person can press a button; it is a very simple operation but has great effect as the power is released into the cables. One button opens the power to the railways so that the trains can start running. By pressing another button, power is released to a whole town. The work that this person is doing in the power station is hidden, and not many people think about it.

Our prayer room is just like such a room at the power station. According to God’s mighty laws, when we pray, the power of God’s grace is ”switched on” and sent out to whoever you pray for. To your wife, to a friend in another city, to your son who is far away. Just as the person at the power station only presses the buttons but it has a great effect, when you are obedient to God’s laws, it has great effects.

Keep close to God in your prayer room

It is good to spend some time alone with God. The door is closed and you have contact with God. It can be at any time of the day or night. You can come before the Lord’s face in prayer and ask Him what you want. It should be a simple prayer. Then God is in your prayer room, and the angels are there. In 1 Corinthians 6:17 it’s written that if you keep yourself to the Lord, you are one spirit with Him.

You can pray for your children, for church members, the sick and the weak. We get more and more to pray for. Even when we feel miserable, nothing can break us when we have a connection with Him. If you are active in this “control room”, then you are helping to give new strength and energy to your fellow human beings. There is usually only one leader in a church, but how many prayer workers are there?

Prayer is a spiritual battle. Don’t become discouraged by the daily difficulties. Today’s troubles and small problems can so easily distract us. But turn to God and get your help from Him, just as it says in Psalm 121:1-2 (NLT): “I look up to the mountains—does my help come from there? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth!” The result of prayer is new strength and a new spirit, and my progress will be clear for all.
