“It shall be done for you!”
Jesus said, “I know that you always answer my prayers.” John 11:42 (CEV). These words show the relationship between Jesus and His Father, and all those who pray surely wish that they could say the same. The good news is that they don’t just have to wish it; they can actually have that same relationship. In John 15:7 (NIV) Jesus says: “If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.”
This is written with the intention that we should believe it; but if we doubt, we don’t remain in Jesus, and His words don’t remain in us, and then we can’t say that whatever we wish, will be done for us.
“While Jesus was here on earth, he offered prayers and pleadings, with a loud cry and tears, to the one who could rescue him from death. And God heard his prayers because of his deep reverence for God.” Hebrews 5:7 (NLT). In another translation it is written that God heard Jesus’ prayers because of His godly fear.
In our time, most Christians do not really believe this. They cannot see the way ahead, just like the Israelites in the wilderness who would not believe and as a result did not enter the Promised Land. “So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.” Hebrews 3:19.
The condition for answer to prayer
Jesus had to pray earnestly, and His Father heard Him because of His deep godly fear. There is a condition attached to every promise. For my prayer to be answered, I must fear God, which means that I am very much afraid to sin.
Loud cries and shouting do not give me what I pray for; but my godly fear drives me to cry out because I am in need for myself or for others.
God will gladly answer everyone’s prayer, but He acts according to His laws, and He thinks of our salvation and sanctification in everything He does. When we learn to know these laws of God, and do what He says in His laws, the result is that there is peace between God and us.
