And whatever you do, do it from your heart for the Lord

I discovered in a very practical way what it means to do everything from the heart for the Lord.

And whatever you do, do it from your heart for the Lord

There were exams to study for and there was a lot of laundry to do. I wanted to take my younger sisters shopping and help one of my friends who had a new baby, but I didn't have time.

Instead of being together with my friends, I was at home with a lot of laundry and a pile of textbooks. “I don’t have time to do anything good,” I was thinking. But I suddenly realised that I was feeling unhappy with my circumstances. Then a verse came to me: “Whatever you do, do it from the heart for the Lord and not for people.” Colossians 3:23 (CEB).

“Can I do my laundry as for the Lord?” I asked myself. “Can I do my schoolwork as for the Lord?” I knew the answer was “yes” because whatever you do means everything you do. Instead of complaining and feeling sorry for myself while doing laundry, I can pray for someone, think about God’s Word, or even sing an encouraging song. Instead of doing my schoolwork unwillingly, I can do it as good as I can and be thankful that I have the opportunity to get an education.

These are the type of things I can do every day to show my love for God. These things are “hidden” in my thoughts. They won’t bring me any praise or honour from others, but they will bring God’s blessing over my life!

While doing laundry, God’s Word can fill me with joy and make me free from being dissatisfied!

”Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion." Ephesians 6:17-18 (NLT).

When I pray to God to help me in my situations, He gives me His Word that is a weapon to overcome thoughts of complaining. Armed with God's Word, I can love and serve God wherever I am; and whatever I do, I can do it with all my heart for God!
