Spirits that come from above and below

We are surrounded by many influences from all sides. What do we allow into our hearts and what is the result?

Spirits that come from above and below

“Then the angel showed me a river with the water of life, clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb.” Revelation 22:1 (NLT). There is nothing as pure and true as that which comes from the throne of God and of the Lamb.

Impure spirits from below – decline and a curse

Today there are many places where evil spirits pour out poison from hell. Those who spread the most impure things, quickly become millionaires. This flood of sin and misery is bigger than ever before and comes straight from hell (Revelation 9:2). The people who support and defend these impure and evil things, call it “progress”. But in reality they are along in leading everything back to the days of Noah, and of Sodom and Gomorrah. People will be living in that same spiritual darkness when Jesus returns, and that same spirit will receive the same judgment. (Matthew 24:37-39.)

Many leaders who know that all this will lead in the wrong direction don’t dare to speak out clearly against it because they are afraid to be called old-fashioned. The most shameless and lawless people seek positions of leadership, and unfortunately they get it because the majority of people are weak and cowardly. There have always been only a few who are willing to stand up for truth and justice, but there have always been many who stand for things that lead in the wrong direction.

What is the result of this evil flood that has been released from hell? The result is war, poverty, need and hunger, overflowing prisons, more and more unhappy family relationships and divorce, as well as the misuse of alcohol and drugs that cause all kinds of unhappiness and misery. Whose fault is all this? Can we blame God? No, we will harvest what we have sown! The people who believe that it would be better to do away with God and Christianity are in total darkness.

There is a stream of spirits that come up from hell, they are evil and impure and bring a curse with them.

A pure Spirit from above – progress and blessing

The greatest supporters of progress who have ever lived on earth are Jesus and the apostles, and all those who have followed in their steps in the same mind and in the same spirit. The result of their work is righteousness, truth, real peace and joy, happy marriages and family relationships, mercy, generosity, and everything that is noble and good.

If everyone followed their leading, there would be no need for the police or the army. All violent and serious crimes, all fraud and corruption would disappear. No one would be hungry or suffer. All the prisons on earth would be empty. Thousands of small children who are now being badly abused, beaten, and tortured by brutal parents would instead grow up in loving homes.

There is a Spirit that goes out from the throne of God and of the Lamb; it is good, perfectly clear and pure, and with it comes God’s blessing. Praise be to our God that there is something that is clear and pure, and which can make us clear and pure. This perfectly clear water must not be polluted by our “self”, but it must continue to flow on, clear and pure, as a blessing for ourselves and others.

“‘He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’ But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive …” John 7:38-39. Just think of being filled with this pure, living, fresh Spirit from heaven while we are in this evil, dark, and impure world. The result will be a living Christianity, and not what is called religiosity.

Transformation and salvation through God’s Word

By nature, all of us are sinners through and through, we are impure and liars, but God be praised that we can become cleansed and transformed people through the power of the gospel.

Jesus spoke pure words, so that those who heard and believed Him became pure because of the Word that He spoke to them. (John 15:3.) This is also what we should do. Most people speak and write words by which others become impure. Peter spoke words by which people were saved, and the Gentiles who heard and believed his words received pure hearts. (Acts 11:14; Acts 15:9.)

James writes: “But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.” James 3:17 (ESV).

On the other side, the wisdom that is from below is the cause of bitter envy, lying, self-seeking, confusion, and every evil thing. (James 3:14-16.) James writes further that it is earthly, carnal, and demonic. This does not speak of much peace or being open to reason. We can see and hear this daily.

Purity and God’s power belong together

Jesus says, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” Matthew 5:8. In Song of Solomon 6:10 (ESV) we can see that the bride is full of purity and strength: “Who is this who looks down like the dawn, beautiful as the moon, bright as the sun, awesome as an army with banners?”. Purity and God’s power belong together. It is the greatest power anyone can possess in life with which to overcome the evil and do the good, to endure, suffer, and bear all things with joy.

Let us all fight for purity in our time! Then God Himself will lead us to victory in our battles. All of heaven is on our side in this war. Then we will afterwards be united with all these holy and glorious people as precious stones in the New Jerusalem.
