When the Bible talks about the cross, it most often doesn’t mean a physical wooden cross, except when specifically talking about Jesus’ crucifixion on Calvary. When Jesus speaks about “taking up your cross” in Luke 9:23, He means that you should say no to the sinful thoughts that come up in you and put them to death. (Colossians 3:5; Galatians 5:24.)
