“The one who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he will not go out from it anymore; and I will write on him the name of My God, and the name of the city of My God, the new Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God, and My new name.” Revelation 3:12 (NASB).
Jesus can change us completely so that we become a “new creation”; something blessed that lasts for all eternity. From being a weak person, who easily doubts and is unstable in everything we do, He can change us to be firm and unshakable, He can make us into pillars in His temple which we shall be for all eternity.
All things have become new
Jesus doesn’t write His new name on something old. “The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NLT). A new birth has to take place. The result of this is a “new creation” with a new heart and a new spirit. Christ doesn’t put new wine into old wineskins. (Luke 5:37.)
It cost Jesus His own precious blood, and He had to fight to set us free from the old and evil way of life which we have inherited from our forefathers. It is therefore a great shame to continue in the old ways and at the same time confess Jesus’ name. Through the new Spirit, which is the Holy Spirit, we have power to change our old attitude of mind and old way of doing things. We can get a new attitude of mind, and become a new person created according to God; we can become a person who is truly righteous and holy, a person who is constantly renewed in their thoughts and attitude of mind. (1 Peter 1:18; Romans 6:6; Ephesians 4:22; Ephesians 4:23-24.)
“I will show you secrets you have never known. Today I am doing something new, something you cannot say you have heard before.” Isaiah 48:6-7 (CEV).
Nothing that we knew or could do before is of any use. The Spirit of Truth will reveal new things to us.
A new commandment = a new creation
“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.” John 13:34. This is how Jesus wants us to love one another.
“In this way a weak and useless command was put aside, because the Law cannot make anything perfect. At the same time, we are given a much better hope, and it can bring us close to God.” Hebrews 7:18-19 (CEV).
God be praised for the new commandments that are written in our new heart. They create life and result in a completely new life in word and deed. This life is even approved by God so that He can write His own name on it, just as He did with the city, the New Jerusalem, and Jesus’ new name. Then we know it is a life that can stand the test; it is a work of God. (Ephesians 2:10.)
We must give ourselves in our daily life to come to this new life in a living faith. Loving our enemies from the heart and suffering unrighteousness with joy and thankfulness is part of the new creation. That which is impossible with man is possible with God. God will not leave us or forget about us in the trials of life if our life has become a pillar in the temple of God. If we live like Jesus taught us, our nature becomes more and more like Jesus’ nature, it becomes more and more godly, which is the "new testament” life. (2 Peter 1:4.)
A new kind of people
Jesus came to earth so that we also could come to this new life; only our unbelief and disobedience keep us from getting it. We either show the new or the old, the new attitude of mind or the old one. The whole world is full of the “old” kind of people. They complain, seek earthly greatness, and love the things of this world.
The new kind of people are glorious and precious in God’s eyes. They are humble of heart; they are faithful and true and have the attitude to serve, sacrifice, and give. Then life will be glorious. This is a new life where we have a completely clean conscience. (Hebrews 9:9.)
“I am creating something new. There it is! Do you see it?” Isaiah 43:19 (CEV). Yes, God be praised. We can truly experience that we are becoming a new creation and that a new song is given to us, a song of praise to God. The new life and the new song belong together. (Psalm 40:3; Ephesians 5:19; Revelation 14:3.)
